Caption: The Free City of Danzig: Poland will forcibly oppose its absorption into the Reich. A view of Danzig, showing the River Vistula flowing through. A city of the German province of West Prussia from 1814 until the end of the Great War, Danzig received the status of a free city by the Treaty of Versailles and was placed under the protection of the League of Nations. Its population is 96 per cent German.
